100 Years of ANZAC

On Friday 24th April we had a special ANZAC assembly at Allenton School. We sung songs about war and poppies. We also had a member of the R.S.A. come to speak to us. This is a video that was made showing all the different activities and learning that our classes have been doing.

On the 25th of April most of the House Leaders of Allenton School went to the ANZAC Day Service to represent Allenton. It was a very big event this year as it is the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing.

We stood in front of the Council building under the trees that blocked the sunlight. Amelie, Matheson and Jamie took a wreath up to the Cenotaph. The Mayor Angus McKay, Kate Whiting, Lachie Davidson (Head boy and girl of Ashburton College), peoplefrom the Red Cross, people from Rotary Club and many others made speeches.

Many people attended the service like St John cadets, Rangers, Guides, Scouts, RSA representatives, Red Cross, the Army and other citizens of Ashburton. There was a parade of people who’s relatives went to war and those people had medals on and walked around.

I really enjoyed the service as I’d never been to one. I really wanted to go to the Dawn Service but I didn’t get up early enough so I couldn’t.
